Gift Shops

Almost everywhere you visit in Europe, there is a gift shop. You have just enjoyed a wonderful cathedral, castle, or some other terrific place and your last port of call is the gift shop. You look around and you must buy the very informative book or magazine containing beautiful pictures and historical information about the place. You have to have it for your collection. They are pretty expensive but worth evey penny. You don’t want to forget a thing about your incredible experience.

One word of advice if you are carrying your own baggage. These books are heavy, take up a lot of space, and will probably never be looked at again. I donated mine to the local high school for students doing reports. After I dragged them all over Europe, I had no interest at all in them after I got home. Maybe you are different and want to look at them with fondness over the years, but I expect that the majority of people put them away and never see them again.

Think twice before you spend the money on books and brochures every place you go. Just buy the ones that are about the best places–places that you never want to forget. Be selective and you won’t be carrying a hundred pound suitcase home filled with stuff you will put away, never to be seen again.
